Constitution Day
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Join the Department of History and Government and Prelaw Society as we recognize the signing of the US Constitution in September 17th 1787. This day provides an opportunity to discuss the significance of one of the oldest written constitutions in the world. This day also gives us a chance to acknowledge the importance of citizenship and the rights and responsibilities associated with citizenship in a democratic society.
This year Attorney Jonathan Smith will serve as our speaker. He is the Executive Director of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. This organization has play a historical role in addressing civil rights issues in our community and across the country. Attorney Smith also led the outside investigation into the death of Mr. Elijah McClain, while in police custody, in the city of Aurora, Colorado.
