The Afrofuture: Call for Artists
8:00 AM - 9:00 AM
The DFPA at Bowie State University presents a juried visual arts exhibition from February 19 to March 29, 2024. This is open to all BSU students, faculty, alumni, staff and community artists, designers, and creatives. The theme is Afrofuturism, speculative fiction, and fantasy. Artists and performers are asked to research and create work that expresses this theme and connects the African diaspora and technology to the past, present, and future.
Visual Artists/Designers/Creatives: We are accepting various mediums, including but not limited to design, illustration, drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, digital media, film/video (short form), animation, motion graphics, interactive media, fashion design, photography and mixed media and more. Artists may work individually or collaboratively but must credit all on the project and application. The deadline to submit the application and a proof of concept is February 1, 2024.
Musicians/Dancers/Actors/Performers: Special performances will also be open to the DFPA and campus community exploring this theme. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community artists can participate and explore this through music, theatre, poetry, and dance. The deadline to submit a proposal and work sample (video, document, song, etc.) will also be February 1, 2024, and the dates for performances will take place between February and April 2024 (TBD).
