The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program, a U.S. Department of State initiative, offers students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in critical foreign languages and broaden their career horizons!

Why CLS?

Who Can Apply?

• U.S. citizens or nationals, aged 18+
• Enrolled in an accredited U.S. undergraduate or graduate degree program

Languages Offered

• Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, Urdu
• New to a language? CLS Spark provides beginner-level virtual instruction for Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Russian, with advanced-beginner Japanese courses available.
