Bernard McNeal
Bernard G. McNeal is currently a full-time faculty member in the undergraduate and graduate accounting programs in the College of Business. He has taught Principles of Accounting, Financial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, Governmental and Nonprofit Accounting, Business Mathematics, Accounting for Decision Making, Introduction to Business, and Principles of Management.
Education
Professor McNeal, Assistant Professor of Accounting, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Morgan State College (MD), a Master of Science in Management (Financial Accounting Option) from Purdue University (IN), and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Northcentral University (AZ). He was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 1980 by the State of Maryland. He has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants since 1980.
Prior to coming to Bowie State University in 1999, Professor McNeal held the position of academic director for accounting/associate professor at the University of Maryland University College. His full-time academic career started in 1989 as an instructor at Howard University. At Howard, he taught Principles of Accounting and Advanced Accounting, and served as the chairperson for the Faculty and Student Grievance Committee. Prior to teaching full-time, he taught for over 12 years as an adjunct assistant professor at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Loyola College in Baltimore, Hood College in Frederick, MD, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Community College of Baltimore, and Howard Community College.
Professor McNeal has over 30 years of professional experience in the areas of audit, tax, consulting, and nonprofit accounting. He was employed in the auditing and management consulting departments of Ernst and Young, CPAs. He held the positions of research accountant, assistant corporate tax manager, and divisional accounting manager at McCormick and Co. Inc., a worldwide spice manufacturer. In addition, he has held senior management positions with these national nonprofit organizations, including The Enterprise Foundation (a national nonprofit housing provider), The National Learning Center (Capital Children's Museum), American Association of University Women, and Educational Foundation. In addition, he provides accounting, tax, and management advisory services to area small businesses.
Activities & Memberships
Professor Bernard McNeal has remained active in the community by serving on the boards of directors for both the Maryland Kidney Foundation (Baltimore, MD) and The Children's Fresh Air Society (Street, MD). He voluntarily develops and presents course materials for the Support Centers of America, a national nonprofit training center for nonprofit organizations.
