Biography

Dr. Granville M. Sawyer Jr. is a tenured Professor of Finance and Director of the Bowie State University MBA Program.  Dr. Sawyer received his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, With Honors, from the University of Tennessee; a Master of Science in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University and, a Ph.D. in Finance also from the University of Tennessee. 

Dr. Sawyer has taught at the University of Tennessee, Drexel University, Seton Hall University, the College of Insurance, Norfolk State University, Johnson C. Smith University and Bowie State University.  Dr. Sawyer has consulted nationally and internationally in Europe, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, India, Ethiopia and the Caribbean in the area of entrepreneurship. He has been featured in Black Enterprise Magazine, The New York Voice, the Virginia Pilot, affiliates of NBC, CBS and ABC, Cox Broadcasting, New Jersey Public Television, the New Journal and Guide, and Entrepreneur Magazine.  He has been a speaker at numerous professional meetings, including the Kaufman Foundation Conference on Entrepreneurial Development, the National Association of Investment Companies and the President’s Conference on Small Business.  He has published in scholarly journals including the Journal of Financial Economics and the International Journal of Quality Science.
