Biography

Dr. Jared E. Moffett joined Bowie State University in January 2023 as the Founding Director of Experiential Learning. In this role, he leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive, university-wide model for experiential learning. Collaborating with administrators, faculty, and staff, Dr. Moffett works to embed experiential learning into both the curriculum and cocurriculum across the institution.

With over 20 years of experience in higher education and K–12 settings, Dr. Moffett is a seasoned servant and transformational leader, as well as a behavioral and educational counselor. Prior to his current role, he held a variety of leadership positions at the University of the District of Columbia, including Executive Director of Career Services, Director of Career Services – Main Campus, Director of Career Services - Community College campus, and Adjunct Professor. He also served at Northern Virginia Community College as Special Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Services, Founding Assistant Coordinator of Cooperative Education, Career and Academic Counselor, and Faculty Professor in the Student Development Academic Department. Earlier in his career, Dr. Moffett worked as a School Guidance Counselor at Digital Harbor High School and Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School in the Baltimore City Public Schools System. Additionally, he has served as an Administrative Assistant for Work-Study in the Admissions and Financial Aid Office at Frostburg State University as well as other roles such as Mental Health Assistant Counselor, Addictions Counselor,
Counselor Technician, and Behavioral Intervention Teacher with various organizations.

Dr. Moffett is a passionate advocate for experiential learning, drawing on his own diverse educational journey. Throughout his own educational journey, he has engaged in a wide range of experiential learning high-impact practices, including internships, practicums, externships, research, intensive writing, leadership roles, service learning, learning communities, capstone projects, case studies, laboratory work, portfolio development, role-playing exercises, fieldwork, study away, work-study experiences, and etc.

Lastly, Dr. Moffett has taught college-level courses in psychology, education, counseling, and student development, reflecting his interdisciplinary expertise and commitment to student success.

Dr. Moffett was born and raised in Cumberland, Maryland and he is a proud graduate of the University System of Maryland.
