Dr Zoulagh is interested in Hexagonal and non-Hexagonal literatures alike. Her particular area of research is Maghrebi literature with a focus on Moroccan female writers in the context of Franco-Maghrebi and Contemporary World Literature more generally. Her work examines the “two-betweenness” in Moroccan women writers, especially the binaries of patriarchy/feminism, Orient/Occident, tradition/modernity, and self/other without falling into the traps of dualistic thinking. She is also interested in a broad range of Arabic and African Francophone literature and creative writing topics, including the interaction of identity and ethnicity, race, gender, class, and religion.

Before coming to Bowie State, she taught Arabic, French and Culture courses at University of Oklahoma, Meredith College, University of South Carolina, Salem State University and Westminster College.
