(BOWIE, Md.) – Recognizing their success in preparing students for business careers, the Bowie State University bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in business administration had their full accreditation reaffirmed through 2029.
The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) affirms that the programs meet the standards required for excellence, including strong program leadership, qualified faculty, student learning assessments and a rigorous curriculum. The programs have maintained ACBSP accreditation since 1998.
“I want to thank the College of Business administrators, faculty, staff and students whose work made it possible to achieve this important indicator of the quality of our business administration programs,” said Bowie State University President Aminta H. Breaux. “The programs highlight that the university is continuing to make significant accomplishments in the Race to Excellence.”
The business administration program enables students to explore a wide range of business fields, including banking and finance, information systems, and entrepreneurship. Some of the region’s largest employers regularly recruit Bowie State business administration students and graduates for internships and jobs through long-standing partnerships with the university.
“The reaffirmation of the undergraduate business program and the MBA program is a welcome validation. ACBSP is all about promoting continuous improvement and recognizing excellence,” said Dr. Regina Tawah, interim assistant dean of the College of Business, who led the accreditation process. “Such validation is important for the employability of our graduates, recruiting new students and an additional motivation for faculty and other stakeholders to stay focused on continuously improving the programs for the benefit of students.”
The College of Business uses a holistic approach to develop a microcosm of real-life business arenas, combining hands-on experiences with the latest tools and research to simulate business challenges. Students learn the knowledge, skills and behavior needed to succeed in a variety of business environments. The faculty bring years of experience in the business world to their classrooms and infuse their expertise into the curriculum.
Bowie State University is also home to Maryland’s first accelerator at a historically black university, the Bowie Business Innovation Center (Bowie BIC), where students interested in starting their own businesses have access to mentors. Students learn to think like entrepreneurs through the BSU Entrepreneurship Academy, which hosts activities like pitch competitions and is open to students from all degree programs.
The extension of the programs’ full accreditation amplifies the university’s foundation of innovation, academic excellence and student success.
