Marketing Success & Presidential Leadership Continue to Receive Recognition

(BOWIE, Md.) – A new brand campaign, highlighting the quality of the Bowie State University experience, and President Aminta H. Breaux picked up additional honors this week at the 2020 HBCUGrow LEAD Conference and Awards.

The BOLD marketing campaign took silver in the Marketing Campaign category because of its innovative approach to showcasing the essence of the Bowie State University community. The BOLD campaign has significantly raised the profile of the university and created buzz in the community. It also speaks to the essence of the university community and how students, faculty and staff approach their work every day.

This powerful description of the Bowie State mindset was affirmed through a comprehensive research effort that engaged members of the campus community, our alumni, friends and community partners in defining perceptions and aspirations of the university. The brand is expressed in refreshed messaging that describes the university, as well as a strong visual brand that uniquely defines the campaign.

President Breaux was honored with silver place in the Best Leadership category. An energetic, collaborative leader, Dr. Breaux has rallied the campus community and partners around a shared Racing to Excellence vision and strategic plan. Since she became president in July 2017, the university has seen unprecedented growth, being recognized as one of the fastest-growing institutions in Maryland.

Her uncompromising passion for students has led to many new initiatives to help ensure their success, which include engaging every incoming freshman in a strengths assessments and a university-wide effort to help students of all disciplines develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Dr. Breaux led the development an innovative Entrepreneurship Living Learning Community to open in summer of 2021, adding much-needed residential beds and space for students to create businesses. Her leadership also expanded experiential learning opportunities by bringing Saxbys to the campus to open an exclusively student-run café in the company’s first partnership with a Maryland college or university and its first with a historically black institution campus.
