Josh Harris Takes Command of the Off-Season

After taking the reins of majority owner from longtime “Redskins” owner Dan Snyder, new Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris took time to assess the landscape.
Following a woeful 2023 campaign that saw the team go 4-13 and place in the top two in the upcoming draft, Harris has now sprung into action. From new coaches, new executives and potentially even a new quarterback, Harris seems to be washing his hands with the old losing ways of the team and ushering in a new culture. Here’s a rundown of the moves the Commanders have made to move into the future.
It all started at this past trade deadline where the Commanders moved on from not one but two of their vital players in edge rushers: Montez Sweat and former No. 2 overall pick Chase Young. To local fans, this was a very polarizing move as these players were part of the foundation of the team and one of its only bright spots – the defensive line.
But with both of them in contract years in a division dominated by rivals in the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, Harris decided to cut his losses and try to make up some of that value for two stars who may have very well been out the door regardless.
These moves in hindsight have set up the Commanders terrifically because now they have ample draft capital for trades and roster-building.
