Hope in a Cage
By Mikala Barber
Why
Do I do it?
Go back
To where I’ve gone.
Just for the satisfaction
Of my flesh beyond.
Every time I get up
I fall back down.
Then wonder…
Why
If I’m freed,
My heart feels trapped in a cage?
Even though,
Death is what I bear.
A spark
Sets my heart ablaze.
A spark of FAITH,
A spark of HOPE,
Rattles the cage.
Head held high,
Look to the sky.
A LIGHT is key.
Chains broken,
Cage opens,
And I’m set FREE.
