Little Time Capsules

By Racquel Lee

plucked a little time capsule

from the crevice of a decayed tree stump

and a dying plant from dry soil

plucked a little time capsule

from the remains of a mountain

and the slush of melting snow

plucked a little time capsule

from the dimmed embers of a flame

and decay of the rotting fruit

plucked a little time capsule

from the fractured flesh of a deer

bleeding out on sturdy asphalt

plucked a little time capsule

from the still heart of a cold body

a human body: wrinkled and old

young and new

brazen and beautiful

dull and delicate

plucked a little time capsule

from the soles of my feet

to yours
