there is a list

of names

written on the color

of surrender

stretching as far as the

horizon line

the words marked

in black, bleeding

scarlet in the dust beneath

 

there is no list

for them

the unnamed victims who-

suffer silently

their names a

dying breath

escaping from chapped lips

 

lives permanently marked

(red) by the oppress

-or’s sanguine hands
