With Love
By Imani Burke
I want a love that consumes me. One that won’t upset my stomach.
I just want it to teeter a little to the right. A little to the left.
A love that engulfs me in its warmth. Where I can always feel its heating radiating, even if I’m in another corner of the world.
A love that never makes me question if it’s there. A love that is always present. I want a love that people would admire.
A love that would inspire poetry to rise onto blank pages.
A love that makes my eyes smile before my mouth does. Where my dimples are most evident.
A love that never keeps me waiting. It sits with me, in good company, at the edge of our seats.
I want a love filled with soft spoken intimacies. A pinkie linked, a look held, a kiss gently planted on the crown of my head.
I want a love full of slow passion. Where it seems as though we can’t get enough of each other, constantly thirsting, holding our glasses out for more.
I want a love that fits like a glove. A love that is strong yet delicate. I want a love that’s overwhelming, a love that’s in explicit detail.
I want a love that allows us to dance in the kitchen, caught up in the grandness of it all.
I want a love that allows silence to speak for us. A love where, when the silence is torn, not a single word is out of place.
I want a love that will hold me in my sleep. A love that seeps into my heart’s dreams. I want a love that is bilingual, where we both speak each other’s love language.
I want a love that’s definite, unwavering. Where words could seem to be filled with hate but our tears pour over with love.
I want a love that lifts us up and prepares us for when we’ll be knocked down. A love where doing it on your own doesn’t mean you’re alone.
I want a love that makes me stutter and leaves you flustered. A love where our love will still shock us to the core.
I want a love that is comfortable. A love that feels like your favorite pjs or like lighting your favorite candle.
I want a love that is equal. A love where no one feels less loved by the other. I want a love that will last in every lifetime.
A love where we love each on every dimensional plane.
I want a love that sets me free. A love that quiets my mind and makes the silence bearable.
A love that is content.
A love that plays like a song in my head.
A love that fills the pages of my notebooks. One that I would turn into the grandes novel, littered with annotations in the margins.
I want a love that is out of this world that grounds me.
I want a love like those two hour long movies that you find yourself watching Again and again and again.
