THE HISTORY OF THE BOWIE STATE UNIVERSITY PI ALPHA ALPHA HONOR SOCIETY
During the fall 2009 academic semester, five graduate Bowie State University scholars matriculating in the Master's in Public Administration (MPA) program, united by a common pursuit of high scholarly achievement, petitioned the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration to request permission to charter a Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society on Bowie's campus. It was their desire to promote and encourage academic achievement amongst their peers and future graduates of the program. Equally important was their desire to tout and honor outstanding scholarly achievement by students in the MPA program. The organizing members with the assistance of the Department Chair Dr. Marion H. Harris labored diligently to charter the chapter which resides in the Department of Management, Marketing and Public Administration. The student’s hard work assisted in the successful establishment on January 14, 2010 a Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society Charter in the Department of Management, Marketing and Public Administration at Bowie State University.
