Please join us for Fall Matriculation Convocation as we welcome you to Bowie State University and celebrate the start of your journey towards graduation.

Details

What to Wear: Please dress in black, white or gold business attire and wear comfortable shoes for the student processional. 

Your Medallion and Booklet: A 2030 medallion and booklet will be waiting at your seat inside the venue. Please wait for instructions during the ceremony before putting on or using your medallion. 

Schedule: Please arrive by 8:30 a.m. The ceremony will begin on time. 

Events: 

  • 8:30 a.m. - Meet at the Student Lawn
  • 9:10 a.m. - Student Processional
  • 10 a.m. - Fall Matriculation Convocation begins
  • 11:30 a.m. - Sweet treats to follow

Travis Mitchell

Senior Vice President and Chief Content Officer
Maryland Public Television

Travis Mitchell joined Maryland Public Television in 2020 to oversee all content created, acquired, and aired on the network's TV channels and digital properties. Under Mitchell's leadership, Maryland Public Television has been nominated for 195 Emmy Awards and earned 79 Emmys from the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. As an executive producer, he is a six-time Emmy recipient and nine-time Telly winner. He is the founder of HBCU Week NOW, a multiplatform distributor of content about HBCUs, and co-executive producer of the new national PBS film "Becoming Thurgood: America's Social Architect."

Prior to joining Maryland Public Television, Mitchell spent more than 20 years in media, including leading content strategy at UNC-TV, now PBS North Carolina. He also served as executive vice president and chief operating officer for the Atlanta-based Black Family Channel, where he drove the channel's distribution growth from two cities to more than 3,600 cities, 48 states and 31 million homes.

Mitchell earned an undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism from Morgan State University and a master's degree in entrepreneurship and education from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education in Philadelphia. He also completed executive education studies at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
