Admission Requirements

Incoming Freshmen

• 3.5 GPA or higher
• Minimum 1200 SAT or 25 ACT score

Applicants can also be considered for admissions into the program without consideration for the full scholarship. Those students must meet the following criteria:

Transfer Honors Students

• 3.5 GPA or higher with a minimum of 15 college credits
• Documentation from current Honors Program
• Complete the Math Placement Test

Current Bowie State Students

• 3.5 GPA or higher
• Completed one fall and spring semester consecutively earning at least a 3.5 GPA
• BSU sophomores and juniors who have a minimum GPA of 3.5 can come to the Honors Program Suite to get an application to apply.
• Students must be highly recommended by at least two Bowie State University instructors.

Program Requirements

Students who enter the Honors Program as freshmen or sophomores must:

• Complete 24 Honors credits
• Complete honors general education courses in areas where they are offered
• Complete 200 hours of documented community service
• Maintain continuous enrollment in classes and an overall GPA of 3.5
• Attend 16 cultural events
• Attend monthly Honors Program meetings
• Take at least one graduate or professional school examination

 Students who enter the Honors Program as juniors must:

• Earn 12 Honors credits with a grade of “B” or better in each course
• Maintain continuous enrollment in classes and an overall GPA of 3.5
• Complete 100 hours of community service
• Attend 8 cultural events
• Attend monthly Honors Program meetings
• Take at least one graduate or professional school examination
