Spring 2019 Graduates Spotlight



About 750 Bowie State graduates will receive their degrees during the Spring Commencement ceremony at Bulldog Stadium. Before crossing the stage, a few of them told us about how BSU has prepared them for success in their budding careers.


 Reneé Garraway

Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership

“It is my purpose to continue working with parents of children with disabilities, Black and Hispanic parents and their children – to learn about what others can do to better serve them. This is just the beginning.”  


 Harrison Razanajatovo

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

“Designing software, websites, applications, games – with a strong foundation in computer science I can do all of those things.”


 
 Shanell Powell

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

“It’s important to stay in a posture of ‘yes’ — saying ‘yes’ to opportunities even when you aren’t 100% sure how they work together.”


 
 Corey Fenyo

Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice

“Student Government Association helped me develop my command presence. Professionalism, discipline and values — ROTC taught me that.”  


 

Grads at a Glance

  • Ebony Lee, a child and adolescent studies major, took dance classes during her time at Bowie State. She plans to study social work in graduate school starting next spring.

     

     

  • Hana Haile excelled as a student leader, first as VP of the National Association of Black Accountants and later as the co-founder of BSU’s Women in Business. She will start her career as a Financial Analyst at JP Morgan Chase.

     

     

  • Communications major James Hairston spent countless hours behind the camera and at BSU TV during his time as a student. After graduation he plans to launch his own digital media company.

     

     

  • Al-Malik Blake, proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., will receive his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

     

     

  • Daryl Jasper, a communications major, is part of the first Bowie State football team to win a CIAA Football Championship. Go Bulldogs!

     

     

  • Sorie Kargbo — a business man by day, DJ at night.

     

     

  • After graduation, student-athlete Madison Margas plans to become an elementary special education teacher.

     

     

  • Computer technology major Oluwatosin Adebayo and his fraternity brothers just celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
