Student Development
Development of Peer Counselors
Peer counselors typically serve in a number of capacities. For example, they may serve as academic and general peer advisors, and as student program assistants. Peer counselors serve as role models and sources of support for students. Peer counselors are trained and developed to assume new responsibilities. As a result of participation in the program, peer counselors also benefit as their self-esteem and professional development is enhanced.
Resident Assistant Development
Counseling Services has assisted in the development of paraprofessionals in the residence halls through training sessions and workshops focusing on peer counseling skills, listening skills, referral, and crisis intervention. Counselors also serve as advisors to organizations to assist in student development.
