Bowie State University Maintains Mask Requirement

Bowie State University continues to maintain COVID-19 precautions while monitoring status of the virus in our community. At this time, the university will continue to require masks in all indoor locations in accordance with the guidelines of the Prince George’s County health department. Wearing high quality masks has proven to provide best protection for vaccinated and unvaccinated BSU community members in our congregate living and learning settings.

Current BSU Mask Guidelines

  • High-quality masks (KN-95 of N-95) should be worn by everyone over the age of 2 in all indoor locations of campus buildings
  • Exceptions to mask requirement:
    • When actively eating or drinking
    • When alone in an office or workspace
    • When alone or with a roommate in residence hall room
    • When participating in a university team sport or athletic activity

While the state has begun to ease mask mandates in state-owned buildings, University System of Maryland institutions may continue to follow local guidelines. The BSU COVID-19 Committee is continuously evaluating current protocols and opportunities for adjustment as new mitigation standards and tools for managing the virus become available. Maintaining up-to-date vaccination with approved boosters and wearing high-quality masks remain our best protection.

Vaccination Clinic

The second campus-wide vaccination clinic this month is set for Thursday, Feb. 24, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in partnership with the Vaccine Equity Task Force and the Maryland National Guard. Booster shots as well as first- and second-dose vaccinations will be available in the Beacon Room of the Center for Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Nursing.  The walk-up clinic is open to any member of the BSU community, no appointment required. All three vaccines – Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson will be available.

As the number of positive cases continues to trend downward, the importance of taking personal responsibility for our individual personal safety increases. Shifts from mandates offer opportunities for each of us to step up to model safe behavior within our community.
