Don’t Relax: Our Fight Against COVID-19 Continues

March 31, 2021

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported a growing spread of COVID-19 variants in Maryland and throughout the region. It is very important that we all remain vigilant with wearing masks in all indoor and outdoor locations, as well as observing social distancing and hand sanitizing guidelines. While many members of the Bowie State University community are receiving the COVID-19 vaccines, it is not time yet to relax safety precautions.

BSU continues to require twice-weekly COVID-19 testing for faculty, staff and students working or living on campus as a vital part of active screening for presence of the disease among community members. Together with the safety precautions, these actions are our best protection to mitigate the impact of the virus at Bowie State.

The availability of the vaccine is increasing across the state and eligibility for all Marylanders 16 years and older is projected to occur in the next several weeks. We strongly encourage all members of the BSU community to take the vaccine as soon as possible. Scientific data indicates that all three vaccines are effective in preventing serious illness from the virus. For the latest information on vaccine sites and eligibility, Maryland residents can visit the state’s vaccine locator webpage or vaccines.gov/search. The Prince George’s County Health Department also offers appointments for people who work in the county.

We must stay strong in this fight and work together to protect Bowie State from the ongoing threat of COVID-19. Please monitor email and the COVID-19 Updates web section for the latest information. Questions or concerns should be emailed to covid19@bowiestate.edu.
