New CDC Mask Guidance, Digital Resources and Vaccine Information

February 17, 2021

The Centers for Disease Control recently released new guidance on appropriate masks and how to improve the fit and filtration of various masks to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Consistent use of masks remains a critical step that everyone can take to reduce the risk of getting or spreading the disease.

The new mask update provides guidance to improve the fit of disposable surgical masks, layering of surgical and cloth masks to improve fit and filtration, and the use of KN95 masks for those who may have extended close contact with persons outside of their household.

Bowie State has each type of mask recommended by the CDC in stock and available to members of the campus community upon request by using the COVID-19 Resource Request Form.

Digital Resources

The Help Desk staff is actively responding to requests for laptops, hotspots and other digital resources. Students, faculty and staff who have requested devices should schedule an appointment for pickup. Any student still in need of computer resources should visit the Bulldog Loaner Laptop webpage for detailed information and email a request to bulldoglaptop@bowiestate.edu. All other Help Desk services are being provided remotely and no walk-ins are accepted at this time.

Vaccine Information

As the national supply of the COVID-19 vaccine is beginning to increase, the number of vaccine sites across the state is also expanding. We encourage all members of the BSU community to seek a vaccination appointment as you are eligible. Maryland residents can check vaccine locator webpage to find a vaccine site in your area and follow instructions to register. BSU employees may visit the vaccine website of the Prince George’s County Health Department for information about appointments for people who work in the county.

As the vaccination process continues, the BSU shared governance leadership has begun consideration of expanded on-campus operations for fall 2021. More information will be forthcoming soon.

We ask all members of the campus community to continue to monitor emails and the COVID-19 Updates web section for the latest information. Any questions or concerns should be emailed to covid19@bowiestate.edu.
