Residential Move-in, Student Testing Protocols & Limited Access to Campus
Freshman students began moving into residence hall this week, sparking a renewed sense of excitement and expectation for the start of the new academic year. Returning students will arrive next week, moving into the Christa McAuliffe Residential Community (CMRC) on campus and The Enclave apartments in College Park Aug. 24-28. To assure effective social distancing, all residential rooms will be single occupancy.
Student Testing Protocols
Stringent COVID-19 testing requirements are in place for all students returning to the campus.
- Students arriving for university housing on and off campus, including CMRC and The Enclave residents, are required to submit results of COVID-19 test before arriving for their move-in date and will receive a second COVID-19 test at the time of check-in.
- Commuting students who have in-person classes should come to campus for testing on Monday, Aug. 24 and Tuesday, Aug. 25, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Parking Lot I. These students have been pre-registered for testing.
- Commuting students with only online classes who may have a need to come to campus for services or activities will be provided testing opportunities after Labor Day. Students can also access the Maryland online testing locator and submit their test results to the Wellness Center Patient Portal
Limited Access to Campus
Beginning Aug. 28 at 5 p.m., following our extensive start-up testing regimen and further mitigating the introduction of coronavirus into the campus, faculty, staff and students’ access to the university will be limited to only those who have submitted negative test results.
Teleworking employees who want to come to campus for any reason must be tested in advance. Employees should report COVID-19 test results to Human Resources at covid-19results@bowiestate.edu. Free testing sites are available in Prince George’s County and around the state. The university will also provide some testing opportunities after the semester begins.

- Nationwide Testing Sites: Visit your stateor local health department’s website for testing locations.
Bowie State is making every effort to create and maintain an environment that limits the opportunity for the spread of COVID-19. We appreciate the cooperation that members of the community have shown in practicing safe distancing, wearing masks in public spaces, and frequent handwashing. Your diligent reporting of daily symptom status provides a mechanism for early warning of any increased threat, and we thank you for the commitment.
