New Housing App Cancellation Deadline, Stay Safe & COVID-19 Screening

The Bowie State University return to campus implementation teams are actively working to finalize procedures and protocols to ensure that our work and learning environments will be as safe as possible as we move to more employees and students on campus in August. Here are some updates about what you need to know:

Extended Deadline to Cancel Housing Application

Students who applied for campus housing now have until Tuesday, July 21 to cancel their 2020-21 housing application. To cancel, please complete the Room Accommodations Cancelation Form by the new deadline.

Stay Diligent with Safety Measures

The report from Maryland health officials this week indicating a rise the number of positive COVID-19 tests, especially among young adults, is a strong reminder that we must all remain diligent in helping to reduce the spread of this disease. We encourage students, faculty and staff, wherever you are at this time, to be mindful of the guidance for social distancing of 6 feet, to wear masks or face coverings in all indoor spaces and to be diligent with handwashing or use of sanitizer when soap and water are not available. Observance of these practices will be among the expectations for everyone returning to the campus as part of our efforts to keep each other safe at BSU.

Baseline COVID-19 Testing & Daily Screening

As students and staff return, procedures will be in place for baseline testing for COVID-19. Everyone will be responsible for daily assessment of their personal health and to report responses to symptom-screening questions through an electronic form. This will enable us to monitor for any occurrence of COVID-19 symptoms or positive tests within the campus community, as well as quickly implement isolation and quarantine protocols to minimize the spread.

It is abundantly clear that response to this pandemic is a marathon that will require perseverance from us all. While we continue to operate under conditions that have been termed a “new normal,” we must not lose touch with our sense of community as BSU Bulldogs, who work together to assure successful experiences for our students.

Please stay tuned for further updates as we prepare to welcome our freshman students to our community in August and teach them what it means to be a Bulldog.

Stay safe and be well.
