Increased Vaccinations in Maryland Spark Decline in COVID-19 Cases

May 12, 2021

As the state of Maryland continues its aggressive vaccination effort, the number of positive COVID-19 cases is declining. More than 65% of the state adult population has received the first shot of the vaccine and the seven-day positivity rate this week was the lowest since October, according to state health department data.

Bowie State has ramped up our on-campus vaccination clinics to twice a week to increase the number of vaccinated persons within our community and reduce the spread of COVID-19 variants. Appointments are now available at BSU every Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. with the next one scheduled for Monday, May 17.  Appointments can be scheduled through the Wellness Patient Portal and walk-ups are also allowed. Remember to review the BSU Vaccination Guidance to schedule your appointments in advance of your planned return-to-campus date. If you have already been vaccinated, please upload a copy of your vaccination card to the Patient Portal.

As COVID-19 variants are becoming more prevalent across the country, many more young people are being affected by the virus. View this video below to learn the facts about the variants from Black medical experts.

We must all be active participants in this fight against COVID-19 and work together to protect Bowie State from the ongoing threat. Please monitor email and the COVID-19 Updates web section for the latest information. Questions or concerns should be emailed to covid19@bowiestate.edu.
