Uptick in COVID-19 Cases Appears Linked to Two Off-Campus Events

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bowie State University administration committed to keeping the BSU community updated with important information.

Earlier this evening we notified the campus of an increase in the number of students who have tested positive for COVID-19. In conversations with COVID positive students, we have identified two off-campus events attended by BSU students in the last several days as the likely cause of our current increase.

Currently, only students have been impacted by this increase. However, all faculty, staff and students are encouraged to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols, particularly the wearing of face masks covering your nose and mouth. We recommend the use of KN-95 masks that are available at the following pickup stations across campus:

  1. Residence Hall main desk
  2. Student Center ticket window
  3. DoIT Help Desk in Thurgood Marshall Library
  4. Campus Police Station in McKeldin Gym.

Please also continue to take advantage of the testing available on campus.

As precautionary measures, the following adjustments to normal operations have been implemented:

  1. All resident students may enjoy visitation ONLY within your assigned residence halls
  2. Social events, student programming and parties should be cancelled or done virtually
  3. Recreational activities (yoga, basketball etc.) will be cancelled through the remainder of the semester
  4. The Dining Hall will offer take out service only

Please monitor your email and the COVID-19 Updates webpage for additional information as it becomes available tomorrow. If you have questions you may also email covid19@bowiestate.edu.

We thank you for your continued support.

Stay safe.
