Prepare for a Safe Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgiving is fast approaching, giving us opportunities to spend time with family and friends.  It is essential during the holiday season to protect yourselves and others from spreading the COVID-19 virus.  Get vaccinated and boosted (if eligible), wear a mask, wash your hands, and practice social distancing when possible.

Please grab an at-home test kit as you leave for the long holiday weekend in case you experience symptoms prior to returning to campus. Test kits are available in the lobby of each residence hall and as always, at the following locations on campus

  • The Ticket Booth in the Student Center
  • Campus Police at McKeldin Gym
  • The Reference Desk and Room 1200 in the Thurgood Marshall Library
  • Room 270 in the Thurgood Marshall Library

After Thanksgiving Testing

Upon return to campus, Nov. 28 – Dec. 2, COVID testing is highly encouraged and will be available in the COVID Testing Center at the Thurgood Marshall Library, Room 1200, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Every student, faculty, and staff member who gets tested during this time period at the Testing Center will receive $12 Flex Bucks credited to their Bulldog Card* that can be used for food at any food services location on campus.  Flex Bucks expire Thursday, December 22, 2022.

*Not redeemable for cash or merchandise other than food. Limit 1 credit per person. Please allow 24-48 hours for Flex Dollars to be loaded on card.

Protection Strategies for December 2022

A spike in COVID cases is projected to occur in December due to new variants. Increases in the Flu and RSV are contributing to campus wide illnesses. To ensure that Bowie State continues to strive for a low positivity rate, each member of the community must take responsibility to do our part. Everyone is reminded to take the following actions:

  • Monitor your personal health daily
  • Get tested if you have COVID-like symptoms or exposure to someone who tests positive.
  • Report any positive self-tests, through the Wellness Portal and isolate for five days.
  • Continue to wear masks indoors at your discretion, especially if you are in a high-risk group.
  • Keep your hands clean and use the sanitizer stations located throughout the campus.

Stay safe and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
