How to Prepare for your Virtual Advising Session

Step 1: Transfer Credit Review

Have you successfully completed any college-level course(s) with a “C” or better?  Have you completed any AP Exams with a score of “3” or better?  If so, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions needs to evaluate those courses for transfer equivalency. Request an official transcript from each college or university you’ve attended.  For AP Exams, request your official College Board exam results. Transcripts and AP Exam results may be submitted electronically to Mr. Harrod, dharrod@bowiestate.edu or mailed to:

Office of Admissions
Bowie State University
14000 Jericho Park Road
Bowie, MD 20715

Bowie State University College Code – 5401

After submitting your official college/university transcript it will take some time for processing. You may log into Bulldog Connection to review your Transfer Credit Report. This report provides a full list of all classes that transferred into the University.

How to access your Transfer Credit Report

Log into Bulldog Connection > from Student Home page select “Academic Records” > select “View Transfer Credit Report.”

Step 2: View the course schedule for your major

Each academic department provided a list of major specific courses you should enroll in during your first semester in college.  We recommend 15 credits per semester to remain on track for graduation in four years. Download your course schedule.

Step 3:  Review your major specific course requirements

Have you completed any of the college-level courses on the list?  If so, are they listed on your Transfer Credit Report?  If you have completed college-level courses AND the courses are NOT listed on your Transfer Credit Report please let us know by completing the Schedule Review Form. Your submission will be sent to the Office of Admissions for processing and to an Advisor for the purpose of providing an updated course schedule.

This form should only be used to notify us of college-level courses that are not appearing on your Transfer Credit Report. Please do not submit a Schedule Review Form if you have not completed college-level courses.

Step 4: Register for classes

We strongly recommend that you register for classes prior to joining your online Advising & Registration session. View registration instructions (pdf).

Should you experience difficulty with enrolling please log into our Virtual Advising Room or reach reach out to your advisor via email (see below).

Student in our Honor’s Program should contact Dr. Gross, mgross@bowiestate.edu to request permission numbers to enroll in designated courses.

Advisors

Advisors are assigned by student’s last name.

English & Math Placement for Fall 2021

You will not take an English or Math Placement Exam due to COVID-19 registration modifications.

English Placement

All students may enroll in college-level English, ENGL 101.

Math Placement

Math placement is determined by your high school cumulative grade point average (GPA). Students having earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher may enroll in college-level math.  Students having earned below a 3.0 will enroll in MATH 90 during the first eight weeks of the semester.  After successful completion of MATH 90 you may enroll in your major specific college-level math course for the remaining eight weeks.

However, students pursuing S.T.E.M. majors must have a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA to enroll in college-level math.  These majors include:

  • Bioinformatics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Computer Technology
  • Mathematics
  • Science Education

These majors typically begin with college-level Pre-calculus (MATH 141) or higher. Due to the rigor of this course the minimum GPA requirement is higher.

  • S.T.E.M. majors having a high school cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.29 may request an assessment to determine eligibility for MATH 141. Your Advisor will provide additional information during your advising session.

Disability Support Services

Upon request the Office of Disability Support Services (DSS) ensures that students with disabilities have full access to all programs and services at Bowie State University. Throughout the summer DSS will host information sessions that provide an overview of services provided and the procedure to request classroom accommodations.  We encourage you to register for a DSS Information Session.
