The Office of Experiential and Integrative Learning encourages all faculty and staff at the university to continue their professional and training for experiential learning and high-impact practices as the literature and research has demonsrated its efficacy in fostering key student development, retention, and success outcomes.

BSU's Institutional EL and HIPS Certification

The Office of Experiential & Integrative Learning and the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning will be collaborating together to design and facilitate a series of workshop for both faculty aand staff that will lead to a BSU Certification in Experiential Learning and High-Impact Practices. To be eligible for this certification, you must be a BSU faculty or staff member and have completed the following sequence of training workshops:

    • Workshop 1: Introduction to Experiential Learning and High-Impact Practices (No Prerequisite Required)
    • Workshop 2: Strategies for Facilitating and Assessing Experiential Learning (Prerequisite Required: Workshop 1)
    • Workshop 3: Designing and Implementing a Course Plan or Program Plan for Experiential Learning (Prerequisite Required: Workshop 1 and 2)
    • Workshop 4: Choose any workshop from the annual EL and HIPS Professional Development Series with Industry Experts coordinated through our partnership with PeopleGrove and Student Opportunity Center.

EL and HIPS Professional Development Series

The Office of Experiential and Integrative Learning has partnered with PeopleGrove and the Student Opportunity Center to annually offer a week long series of professional development discussions, presentations, and workshops for faculty and staff interested in experiential learning and high-impact practices.

National and Global Certifications

The Office of Experiential and Integrative Learning encourages faculty and staff to take their professional development and training for experiential learning to the next level with a national or global certification.

Institute on High-Impact Practices and Student Success

The Office of Experiential and Integrative Learning partners with the American Association of Colleges and Universities on experiential learning and high-impact practices through the Institute on High-Impact Practices and Student Success.

  • The Office of Experiential and Integrative Learning with a team of administrators, faculty, and staff will be attending the Summer 2024 AAC&U's Institute on High-Impact Practices and Students Success. During this institute the team will be working on the following:

    • Create a comprehensive action plan or refresh your institution's current strategies to advance equity in student success outcomes across diverse student populations through the implementation of High-Impact Practices (HIPs).
    • Discover innovative approaches to creating effective curricular and co-curricular designs for learning and assessment practices that connect with your students' unique strengths, cultural wealth, identities, and values.
    • Develop effective strategies for overcoming limited resources and adapting to variations in modes of delivery, to ensure that effective practices are brought to scale.
    • Learn how to embed high-impact practices across all disciplines and build capacity for wraparound services that support educating the whole student.
  • The university previously attended the Summer 2019 AAC&U Institute on HIgh-Impact Practices and Student Success and submitted the respective Action Plan.
