The study away program helps you explore the diverse cultures and environments that make up the U.S. and U.S. territories within a controlled educational setting. The Office of International Education and Student Services will support you as you take the opportunity to study different cultures, cities, and academic environments without leaving the country.
Study Away Affiliates
Bowie State University has collaborated with the National Student Exchange program to provide students with semester or full academic year exchanges across the U.S. and U.S. territories (Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands). This program allows you to complete courses you need for your degree at a host institution and have your credits transfer back as if you had taken them on Bowie State’s campus.
Get Started
1. Attend Study Away Info Session
Study Away Info Session attendance is required to schedule a private NSE Application Appointment to apply to the program. 30 minute sessions are offered virtually two times a week during the fall & spring semesters. If you are unable to attend the regularly scheduled sessions, please email us at studyabroad@bowiestate.edu to set up a session.
2. Research your campus options and consult your Academic Advisor
Search by your major on National Student Exchange Website to see what campuses are available. Talk with your Academic Advisor about what classes you may be able to take while on exchange.
3. Schedule NSE Application Appointment
Meet one on one with the National Student Exchange coordinator to receive assistance going over your campus choices, type of payment, housing needs, class needs, and completing the application. Bring a laptop or tablet to the appointment.
