Institutional Review Board
The Institutional Review Board is an administrative committee designated to provide ethical and regulatory oversight of research that involves human subjects. To this end, the board reviews all the proposed research involving human subjects to ensure that persons who serve as subjects in research are treated ethically and that their rights and welfare are adequately protected.
At Bowie State University, the Institutional Review Board review process is administered by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. Investigators and student researchers are not allowed to solicit human subject participation or start data collection before receiving board approval.
