Why Did We Plant?
Why did we plant fruit trees on our campus?
For the environment
- Help combat global warming
- Improve our surrounding air, soil, and water
- Become a part of a worldwide initiative to plant 200,000 trees
- Fruit trees can last for several decades/generations
For Bowie State University
- Harvested produce can provide fresh fruit options for the BSU Food Pantry and/or dining services
- Provides student organizations with volunteer & community service opportunities for tree maintenance
- Provide valuable learning opportunities for BSU students
- Strengthen our surrounding community connection
- Provides possible institutional advancement opportunity (i.e. ‘Adopt a tree’)
- Helps to build pride in efforts to continue beautifying our campus
