Why Did We Plant?

Why did we plant fruit trees on our campus?

For the environment

  • Help combat global warming
  • Improve our surrounding air, soil, and water
  • Become a part of a worldwide initiative to plant 200,000 trees
  • Fruit trees can last for several decades/generations

For Bowie State University

  • Harvested produce can provide fresh fruit options for the BSU Food Pantry and/or dining services
  • Provides student organizations with volunteer & community service opportunities for tree maintenance
  • Provide valuable learning opportunities for BSU students
  • Strengthen our surrounding community connection
  • Provides possible institutional advancement opportunity (i.e. ‘Adopt a tree’)
  • Helps to build pride in efforts to continue beautifying our campus
