Summer Computing Camps 2026
Program Overview
The Department of Computer Science at Bowie State University is pleased to offer a series of summer camps for middle and high school students interested in exploring computing and emerging technologies. Each camp is hands-on, immersive, and project-based, giving students the chance to develop practical skills, collaborate with peers, and work with real tools and concepts used in the field today.
Students are encouraged to select the camp that best aligns with their interests and future goals.
Program Details
- Application Deadline: May 15, 2026
- Notification of Acceptance: May 22, 2026
- Registration Fee: $350 per camp (due by June 5, 2026)
- Camp Hours: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM daily

Apple App Design (High School Only)
June 22 – June 26, 2026
An introduction to mobile app development using Swift and Xcode, Apple's official development environment. Participants build guided applications and develop a foundation in user interface design and programming.
Topics covered:
- Introduction to Swift programming
- Xcode environment and tools
- User interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design
- App navigation and layouts
- Handling user input and data
- Debugging and testing apps
- Final project: Building a social media application
Game Development
July 6 – July 10, 2026
An exploration of the core principles behind game development, including programming, game design, and graphics. Students gain hands-on experience using industry-relevant tools to design and build their own interactive games.
Topics covered:
- Introduction to game development
- Game design principles and mechanics
- Programming for interactive games
- Graphics, animation, and sound integration
- User controls and gameplay logic

Cyber Squad
July 13 – July 17, 2026
An introduction to cybersecurity and ethical hacking through hands-on activities and real-world scenarios. Students learn how to protect systems, identify vulnerabilities, and respond to cyber threats.

AI Ninjas
July 20 – July 24, 2026
An introduction to Generative AI and AI Agents through interactive, hands-on projects. Students explore how AI systems work and how they can be applied to solve real-world problems.
