Theatre Arts Major
From acting and directing, to scene lighting and design, Bowie State’s theater arts program provides exposure in all aspects of theater. Housed in our state-of-the-art Fine and Performing Arts Center, students have ample space to refine their performance and production skills in plays, musicals and dance. Additionally, the Washington, DC, and Baltimore metro areas are prime locations for students to gain real-life industry experience in local professional theaters.
Bowie State offers a bachelor’s degree in theater arts, with a choice of studies in acting/directing or dance movement. The program also offers minors in theater arts or dance. Through mentorship and practical training, graduates emerge from the program with strong technical skills and a unique artistic vision. You will:
- Understand the fundamentals of theater and explore specialized skills in acting, directing, stagecraft, children’s theatre, dance and playwriting.
- Analyze a variety of performance and dramatic texts.
- Effectively utilize voice and body as an instrument of performance.
- Learn the art of self-promotion in the business of theatre and dance.
