Army ROTC Training Opportunities
RANGER CHALLENGE
As a Bulldog Battalion Cadet, you will have the opportunity to try out to become a member of the elite BSU Ranger Challenge Team. As a team member, you will be challenged both physically and mentally as you prepare to compete in the annual Ranger Challenge competition. There you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your warrior prowess in a series of physically challenging events and ultimately earn the coveted title of Ranger. Are you ready to meet the challenge?
MARKSMANSHIP TRAINING
Every soldier is a rifleman first! Marksman proficiency is the cornerstone of every warrior leader. You will receive hands-on training and participate in basic rifle marksmanship to further enhance your warrior skills.
RAPPELLING
What is it like to rappel off a 100-foot tower or from an Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter? Army ROTC can open the doors to these highly sought after training opportunities and more.
LAND NAVIGATION
In the age of global positioning satellites, mastering the art of finding your way in the wilderness armed with only a map, protractor, compass, and intellect is a skill preserved in the Army ROTC program. Not only will you learn to find your way through rugged terrain using your newly acquired skills, you will find yourself in the process.
SPECIAL SKILLS TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Are you Army Strong? By joining Army ROTC, you will be afforded the opportunity to volunteer for some of the most exciting Army schools available. These schools include Airborne Training, Air Assault School, Northern Warfare and Mountain Warfare Training, Special Forces Robin Sage Internship, Combat Dive Qualification Course and even Sapper School for those who qualify. We offer these training opportunities during the summer, and winter breaks. Limited slots are available, so only the top cadets in their class will be nominated to attend.
WARRIOR FORGE
Third-year Cadets will attend the annual Warrior Forge summer training camp, also known as CLC (Cadet Leadership Course), where they will apply and be evaluated on all they've learned throughout their cumulative training in ROTC. You will work with cadets from ROTC
programs nationwide and put your leadership ability to the ultimate test. Completion of Warrior Forge will give Cadets a fresh perspective on what it’s really like to be a leader in the greatest Army in history. For most, this unique and exciting training opportunity builds bonds that last a lifetime.
CADET TROOP LEADERSHIP TRAINING
A unique hands-on leadership experience awaits some cadets after completing the Cadet Leadership Course (CLC). Volunteers who are selected for Cadet Troop Leadership Training (CTLT) are sent to an active-duty unit for three weeks of orientation into the life of an Army officer. Cadets are normally assigned to a platoon leader to learn the day-to-day duties, and will be required to perform some of those duties by the end of the assignment. This is an amazing way for cadets to get a taste of their life once they are commissioned.
COLOR GUARD AND DRILL TEAM
The BSU Army ROTC Color Guard and Drill Team provide ceremonial support to various campus and off-campus functions, which include sporting events, formal events, and other events to which BSU Cadets are invited. You can take pride in knowing that you are a practitioner of one of the most honorable military traditions.
SWIM TRAINING
Army ROTC cadets will conduct combat water survival training and will be assessed on their swimming ability. We can provide individual or group swimming instruction for prospects who may not be strong swimmers. This is another great opportunity to test yourself beyond your limits.
PHYSICAL TRAINING
Being "Fit to Fight" is the key to success in Army ROTC. Cadets are regularly assessed on their state of physical readiness, which is instrumental in being able to meet the rigors of training as well as maintaining personal health and well-being. Making our Cadets Army Strong is a top priority in the Bulldog Battalion.
SMALL UNIT TACTICS TRAINING
Plan a mission. Conduct a reconnaissance. Lead a small band of Cadets to victory using tactical prowess and sheer cunning. These are just a few of the skills you will bring to bear when you lead a patrol on a simulated combat mission. The training is as real as it gets to close combat, and a true test of your newly acquired warrior skills.
NURSE SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM
The Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP) is a clinical elective offered at Army hospitals in the United States and Germany. NSTP is a paid elective that Cadets can attend during the summer between the junior and senior years. It gives Cadets the opportunity to develop both their leadership and nursing skills. It introduces Cadets to the Army Medical Department and the roles and responsibilities of an Army Nurse Corps officer. Many schools of nursing offer academic credit for this challenging course.
NSTP Cadets report to an Army hospital for clinical training, working in areas like medical-surgical wards, intensive care units, and emergency departments. Emphasis is placed on hands-on experience. Cadets are supervised by a preceptor, an experienced Army Nurse Corps officer, who works with them one-on-one throughout the training.
Through the NSTP, Cadets receive clinical experience in such areas as patient assessment, the planning of patient care, nutrition maintenance and feeding techniques, range of motion and mobility, medication administration, emergency procedures, and special techniques such as intravenous (IV) therapy and colostomy care.
FUNDRAISERS
It's a family affair. BSU Army ROTC Cadets take part in many activities to build "esprit de corps" such as our annual fundraisers. Whether inside or outside the classroom, you'll be a part of something greater than yourself and be a member of an exclusive club.
