About CURE

Research experience is essential to the education and professional development of undergraduate STEM majors. To provide adequate opportunity for research experiences, the Department of Natural Sciences has embarked upon a new approach titled Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CURE), in which faculty develop projects that engage whole classes of students in addressing a research question or problem that is of interest to the scientific community. CURE courses feature unique research projects across the Department of Natural Science's core curriculum and offer multiple opportunities for undergraduates to explore research as a further career pathway and to develop technical skills. CURE courses are designed to complement and build upon one another in order to enhance student learning and impact, from freshman year through senior year. CURE courses offer research opportunities to whole classes of students in molecular biology, genetics, immunology, cell biology, genetic engineering, microbiology, bioinformatics, drug discovery, field biology, and more.
