DSA Student Datathon
The challenge focuses on studying equity, disparity or injustice issues in the USA using Data Science and Analytics as well as other current issues such as elections, and two or more datasets from different data sources including at least one dataset from the U.S. Census Bureau. For example, it may emphasize on the analysis of data sets from the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics(NCES) and using Census data on socioeconomic indicators such as median income, poverty, and race.
Methodology
Teams will formulate analytics objectives, identify appropriate datasets, curate, analyze, etc. They will develop DSA based analysis of the problem or issues under study and provide recommendations for solution. They also make presentation and defend their work. The work includes the following.
- Using data and analytics describe and discuss the attributes/variables/factors associated with the problems or issues under consideration
- identify important factors that contribute to the problems or issues under consideration.
- Develop models that can be used for predication.
- Provide recommendations and/or policies to address the problems or issues under consideration.
Participation
A team of a maximum of four students with a faculty from BSU and/or a Research/SME as an advisor/mentor.
