Your Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Pastoral Counseling will help you consider religion and culture when creating strategies to address mental health. You will better understand the role of the church in the community and learn how to fully support underserved groups. You will develop skills to help you counsel individuals, groups, couples, families, and communities across various cultures and learn about crisis intervention to cultivate resiliency and promote spiritual growth.
If you are an ordained clergy, counseling professional or church member committed to the spiritual and emotional wellness of those around you, you are already perfectly positioned to supply mental health counseling.
Why a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Pastoral Counseling
Bowie State University provides the skills necessary to develop a faith-based wellness plan that combines social justice counseling with spiritual understanding to help connect counselors with clients on a deeper level. You will apply advocacy counseling, trauma intervention, and spiritual insight to better serve your community.
The program is flexible and can be pursued as an independent certificate or with another program within the Department of Counseling and Psychological Studies. When pursued concurrently many course credits overlap, typically requiring just 3-4 additional courses to complement your current program.
To earn your Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Pastoral Counseling, you must complete:
- 30 credit hours
- 27 classroom hours
- 3 internship hours

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Pastoral Counseling also:
- Meets 30 of the 60-hour needed for the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapist for Licensed Graduate Professional Counselors.
- Satisfies the requirements for the Human Services-Board Certified Practitioner.
