Campus Closed Jan. 21 - Operations Virtual

Due to a power outage, Bowie State University’s campus will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. All classes and office operations will be virtual except for planned activities in the James and McKeldin Gymnasiums.

Admission Requirements

For admission into the Counselor Education and Supervision PhD program, you must:

  1. Complete a Bowie State University Graduate School application .
  2. Hold a master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or a related field with a minimum GPA of 3.50.
  3. Provide three letters of recommendation on official letterhead with an ink signature.
    • Two must be from a college professor or someone who can attest to your graduate-level studies.
    • One may be written by a supervisor or a professional who is familiar with your work.
  1. Present a 10-minute presentation for faculty that responds to the following:
    • Background information: Family history, education, and work
    • Goals: What do you expect to be doing in five years as a counselor educator? In ten years as a counselor educator?
    • Strengths: What strengths do you have that would contribute to your being a good counselor educator?
    • Change: What do you believe to be the facets of your personality, behavior, and outlook that, if modified or changed, would make you a better person/counselor educator? What plans, if any, do you have for making any such change(s)?
    • Why Bowie State University? Why did you decide to apply to the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Bowie State University?
    • Candidates’ comments: What additional information, thoughts, feelings, concerns, or questions do you have?
  2. Submit writing sample (i.e., master’s thesis, previous course work, publication, etc.)
  3. Participate in a group interview and individual interviews with faculty.
  4. Submit your current resume.
