Due to inclement weather, Bowie State University will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026. All classes, office operations and on-campus activities are canceled. Residence halls will remain open. Admissions Requirements

  • A completed BSU Graduate School application
  • Undergraduate transcripts in psychology or a related field with a minimum GPA of 3.00. Non-psychology majors must have a minimum of 12 undergraduate credits in the social sciences field.

You must submit the following items:

  • Three letters of recommendation on official letterhead with an ink signature:
    • Two must be from a college professor or someone who can attest to the aptitude for graduate studies.
    • One may be written by a supervisor or professional who is familiar with your work.
  • Letter of interest or personal statement which responds to the following:
    • Background information: Family history, education and work
    • Goals: What do you expect to be doing in five years? In ten years?
    • Strengths: What strengths do you have that would contribute to your being a good counselor?
    • Change: What do you believe to be the facets of your personality, behavior, and outlook that, if modified or changed, would make you a better person/counselor? What plans, if any, do you have for making any such change(s)?
    • Why Bowie State University? Why did you decide to apply to the counseling program at Bowie State University?
    • Your comments: What additional information, thoughts, feelings, concerns or questions do you have?
  • Applicants must participate in either a phone or face-to-face interview.
