Return Home to Reenergize the Campus

June 9, 2021

With just over 30 days remaining before Bowie State staff begin the official return to campus, efforts are in full swing to support the transformation back to the vibrant, welcoming environment that defines the BSU Bulldog spirit. Increasing numbers of fully vaccinated students, faculty and staff will substantially reduce the threat of COVID-19 infections and enable more of the interactions that we have missed over the past year.

In addition to assuring a multi-layered approach to health and safety protocols in classrooms and other campus buildings, attention to social and emotional well-being will be a focus during the transition. Special welcome home celebrations will create space for staff, faculty and students to reconnect as each group returns to begin the new academic year. New resources will also be in place to encourage self-care practices and care for others in managing through change.

What You Should Do Now

Staff who are returning to work on July 12 should act now to complete the vaccination process to have full access to the campus.

  • If you are fully vaccinated, please upload your vaccination card to the Wellness Patient Portal.
  • If you have not started the vaccination process, you should seek the Johnson and Johnson vaccine no later than June 28.
  • If you are unable to take the vaccine, you should immediately request an exemption for medical or religious reasons.

Faculty and students returning in August should get the first vaccine dose by July 9 and complete the second dose or the single Johnson and Johnson dose by Aug. 6. Consult the BSU Vaccination Guidance for a full overview of the schedule for compliance by your return to campus date.

Vaccine Availability

BSU offers the Moderna vaccine on campus every Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. by appointment or walk up. Schedule appointments through the Wellness Patient Portal. Marylanders can search for vaccine sites across the state at covidvax.maryland.gov or by calling the COVID-19 Vaccination Support Center at 1-855-MDGOVAX. Vaccination can also be scheduled at local Walgreen, Walmart and other drug stores in your area.
