Return to Campus Plan Moves into Phase 2

May 26, 2021

Bowie State begins Phase II of its Return to Campus Plan in June with new guidelines for testing, masking and freedoms for vaccinated individuals. The COVID-19 standards of Prince George’s County will continue to guide changes in BSU protocols as the transition to pre-pandemic norms progresses.

The following standards will be in effect beginning June 1:

  • BSU will relax outdoor masking for all, students, employees and visitors. Masks will continue to be required indoors for everyone regardless of vaccination status.
  • Vaccinated individuals will begin testing every 30 days.
  • Those who are not vaccinated (approved exemptions) will maintain the current testing strategy of 2 appointments with 3 tests per week.
  • All members of the BSU community must complete the daily monitoring to retain the green badge access to campus.

Preparing Office Spaces for Return

In preparation for staff returning to university offices, employees are encouraged to return to campus to inspect offices spaces in June to assure that everything is in working order. You may download an Return to Campus Office Checklist which notes areas to inspect. Please submit Facilities Work Orders or IT Help Desk Tickets to assure any needed repairs can be made before the scheduled July 12 staff return date.

Vaccination Schedules

Employees returning to campus July 12 should be sure to get the first vaccine dose by May 31.  All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to get vaccinated  and upload your vaccination record to the Wellness Patient Portal.  Remember to review the BSU Vaccination Guidance for a full listing of the deadlines to complete your vaccination at least two weeks before scheduled return to campus dates.

Vaccination clinics are offered on campus every Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the Center for Natural Sciences Mathematics and Nursing. Appointments can be scheduled through the Wellness Patient Portal and walk-ups are also allowed.

Medical and religious exemptions request forms are available at the COVID –19 website along with  additional vaccination information.
