Meet the Director
Dr. Matthew Crosston is a globally recognized scholar, analyst, and education innovator. In addition to a long career teaching, he has helped build and launch half a dozen online programs within Liberal Arts, STEM, and Professional Studies, with several achieving “Center of Academic Excellence” status from the US government. He has published top-tier research that has impacted real world decision-making in the US and beyond. His established work in cyber has made required reading lists at US CYBERCOM and Israel’s Mossad; the piece ‘Soft Spying’ is required reading at the US Army War College and major Fortune 500 companies; and ‘Nemesis’ is highlighted on the journal of record for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among several others. He has published over 200 articles, analytical editorials, and commissioned opinion pieces that represent the full spectrum of global security and they have been translated into Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian, Hebrew, Spanish, Turkish, Farsi, Greek, and Uzbek.
Emblematic of his commitment to international education and global partnerships, he is currently Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv, Israel; Senior Advisor for the Research Institute for European and American Studies in Athens, Greece; Senior Fellow at the China Eurasia Council for Political and Strategic Research in Nanjing, China; and was the first American invited to conduct a political analysis blog for the Russian International Affairs Council in Moscow, Russia. His personal interests range across International Relations and Comparative Politics, with special attention given to Post-Soviet and Middle East politics, Radical Islam, Transnational Crime and Corruption, Cyberwarfare and Deterrence, and Comparative Intelligence Systems. In the past few years, he has been invited to speak at such diverse venues as the U.S. Department of State, the Defense Intelligence Agency, Oxford University, STRATCOM, the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He has a BA from Colgate University, MA from the University of London, PhD from Brown University, completing a Post-Doc at the University of Toronto.
