Thurgood Marshall College Fund-Association of College and University Educators (TMCF-ACUE) Grant
Bowie State University was one of only 14 universities in the United States to win a two-year TMCF-ACUE grant in 2021 entitled “Excellence in Online Instruction.” This grant tackles the crucially under-appreciated aspect of online learning, namely, innovative virtual pedagogy. It dives deep into the strengthening of quality in online / blended / hybrid / hyflex instruction through intentional and focused professional development of faculty. Structured as an intensive year-long training course, it enables faculty to learn about and implement evidence-based teaching practices shown to strengthen student outcomes and close equity gaps. Faculty who satisfy course requirements will earn a Certificate in Effective College Instruction endorsed by ACUE and the American Council on Education. The TMCF-ACUE grant allows as many as 64 full-time and adjunct faculty to participate each year, dramatically changing the nature of our online training and evolving it beyond the standard focus on the acquisition of technical skills and tools.
