CURE Information for Faculty
Training for Faculty
According to the National Academies, engagement in undergraduate research experiences offers several benefits for faculty and research staff:
- Enhanced Research Productivity: Faculty members often find that involving undergraduates in research can lead to increased research output. Students can assist with data collection, analysis, and other research tasks, allowing faculty to focus on more complex aspects of their projects.
- Fresh Perspectives: Undergraduates bring new ideas and perspectives, which can lead to innovative approaches and solutions in research projects.
- Funding Opportunities: Engaging undergraduates in research can make faculty more competitive for grants and funding, as many funding agencies value educational components and broader impacts in research proposals.
- Professional Development: Faculty can enhance their teaching and mentoring skills, which are valuable for career advancement and personal growth.
- Strengthened Academic Community: Collaborating with students fosters a sense of community and collegiality within the department and institution.
- Recognition and Awards: Effective mentorship can lead to recognition, including awards and honors that acknowledge the faculty research mentor's contributions to student development, experiential learning, and skills acquisition.
Faculty members have our full support throughout every step of the process, from project brainstorming, inception, syllabus re-design, ordering supplies (if needed), and project implementation.
Want to implement CUREs in your department or institution? Our CURE Leadership Team is willing to partner with you to discuss the implementation of CUREs for your students. We have held Faculty Institutes at regional institutions and at national organizations.
