Department of Natural Sciences
Science Education Major
Tap into your passion for teaching and biology to make an impact in the classroom. At Bowie State, we are preparing students to meet the high demand for quality middle and high school science teachers in Maryland. Our dedicated faculty guide you through a robust science program and teach best practices that will help you create an engaging classroom environment. With a bachelor’s degree in science education, you will have the solid foundation you need to excel as a secondary teacher in natural sciences.
The science education major combines a degree in biology with a secondary-level teaching certification. Over the course of nine semesters, you will:
- Examine the depth and breadth of natural sciences through the study of biology, chemistry and physics.
- Develop laboratory skills and problem solving strategies in integrated lecture/lab courses.
- Learn how to design engaging curriculum and lesson plans that meet state content requirements.
- Gain hands-on experience during a full-time teaching internship in a local secondary school.
