Designed for traditional students, working adults and commuters, the RMI program offers a rigorous, high-impact curriculum that integrates theory with practice.

A Bachelor of Science in Risk Management and Insurance prepares you with critical, analytical, decision-making and risk managing skills that public, private and government organizations are seeking. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of risk management principles and gain practical experience in risk assessment, financial risk and insurance operations through a combination of in-class, online and real-world learning opportunities

You will learn from industry professionals and develop skills that align with in-demand industry credentials and licensures, including Associate in Risk Management, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Associate in Claims, agent licenses, and more. The program prepares you for high-demand, high-wage careers across insurance, finance and risk management.

The Risk Management and Insurance program is supported by the RMI Board of Advisors, comprised of experienced Risk & Insurance industry professionals and alumni, who play a vital role in fundraising and providing financial support through donations, scholarships and event sponsorships. The Board also helps strengthen employer partnerships and connects you to internships and mentorship opportunities that enhance your academic experience.

To earn your Bachelor of Science in Risk Management and Insurance from Bowie State University, you must complete a minimum of 120 credits.

The degree program is divided into the requirements below:

  • Core Business Foundation: 48

You can explore careers such as risk analyst/manager, treasury analyst/manager, data analyst, financial analyst, safety manager, workers’ compensation claims specialist, underwriter, actuary, claims adjuster, Insurance Agent or Broker, loss prevention consultant and more.

Scholarships

Once you enroll at Bowie State University, you will automatically receive a list of scholarships you qualify for, based on the SAT/ACT scores and GPA provided on your admission application. Review each scholarship’s requirements and apply to as many as possible. You are also encouraged to apply for private donor, departmental and external partner scholarships.
