Support Services
Academic Advisement
Bowie State University Academic Advising Center (AAC) embraces the diverse, intellectual, cultural, and physical presences that each student brings to our campus. The Academic Advisement Center believes that each student possesses "star power." The vision of star power helps students understand their role and importance in our community. Student participation in advising practices and services will assist the University and each student in joining together to present a "star".
The AAC advises students up to 59 credits. Students must meet with department advisor in seeking advisement after 60 credits.
Student Success Center
Tutoring services through the Student Success Center is designed to promote confident learners through review of what students have learned in class, helping students to study the course material, and providing students with academic support for the improvement in academic success, retention and graduation.
Disability Support Services
Disability Support Services educates the University community on legal requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act and ensures that students with disabilities have full access to all programs and services at Bowie State.
Writing Center
Writing consultants are available to help students become more effective and confident writers through one-on-one tutoring or group sessions.
Engaged Learning and Student Support
We partner with students, faculty and staff to cultivate deep learning and student success by:
- providing opportunities for students to discover their strengths and explore new perspectives,
- walking with first-generation students to demystify the college experience,
- building authentic communities that support growth and bold action, and
- empowering faculty to connect with students through meaningful, interdisciplinary learning experiences.
