Outreach Wednesdays

During the semester the BSU community can find the ATOD Peer Educators in the Student Center Mall conducting outreach on Wednesdays. This is a perfect opportunity to engage with peer educators, receive educational materials, and access safe sex supplies.

WUSA9 Interview: ATOD Program

Coordinator appeared on WUSA 9 Great Day Washington to discuss our partnership with the Prince George’s County Health Department in ending the HIV epidemic.

Cancel HIV Novella Series

In this four-episode video series, follow the interconnected stories of Donte, Avery, Pamela, and Sidney, as they navigate casual dating and sexual health. The HIV Prevention video series is an innovative strategy to engage younger adult audiences about sexual health and HIV. ATOD peer educators appear in the videos.

Project BBB (Bowie Bold Ball)

This event raises awareness for safe space building and the Ballroom Community, which allowed our students the opportunity to unite and compete while also learning historical culture.

Pushing P Safer Sex Initiative

In collaboration with the Henry Wise Wellness Center, this initiative places sexual health supplies and educational materials in ‘Prevention Pods’ in the six residence halls.

Sex Week

This thought-provoking week of events centers around sexual health and wellness. Students are educated and engaged in conversations to help them better understand their sexual health focusing on mind, body, and spirit.

Testing for Tickets

This initiative encourages students to be tested get tested for HIV by offering a chance to win tickets to a Homecoming or Torchfest events.

Do Your Big O.N.E. (Own Your Actions, Never Succumb to Pressure, Educate Yourself)

In recognition of National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, this social media campaign features digital posters created by BSU students who have first-hand experience on how substance use can impact your life.

MDOT Maryland Highway Safety Office Impaired Drinking Partnership

This collaboration between MDOT, ATOD, stakeholders, and highway safety champions focuses on developing strategies to eliminate impaired driving. During Torchfest, MDOT hosted an information table with drunk goggles and other interactive activities as well as their rollover simulator.

Mocktail Events

These events highlight the ability to have a good time without engaging in the use of alcohol.

LITT Overdose Awareness Day

Love In The Trenches (LITT) is a certified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that exists to support families affected by substance use disorders. As part of their Undo the OD campaign, they partnered with ATOD to distribute Naloxone as well as conduct Naloxone training on August 31st for National Overdose Awareness Day!

Naloxone Training

Through this initiative, efforts are made to raise awareness about opioid overdose. Educational information was provided to 60 students and our partners at LITT trained 85 BSU staff members from the Office of Residence Life and Campus Police.
