The Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drug (ATOD) Prevention Center increases prevention efforts through education, training, and the effective development of constructive alternatives to substance use and abuse. By promoting an environment where students have an opportunity for academic success and wellness, risk-taking behaviors associated with the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs can be reduced.

How We Work

The ATOD Prevention Center distribute newsletters, hosts workshops and conducts presentations in an effort to:

  • Provide education to students, faculty, and staff
  • Provide research-based information about the nature, scope, and consequences of students’ use of alcohol, controlled substances, and the risk of contracting HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis
  • Implement the use of science-based peer education in order to educate students about alcohol and other drug use, and the consequences associated with misuse
  • Identify the link between serious problems and alcohol, i.e, poor academic performance, vandalism, violence, dropouts, date rape, and deaths
  • To strengthen law enforcement for campus violations of ATOD related behavior

Students are welcome to visit the ATOD office located in Robinson Hall, Room 117.  Additional resources are available on the Campus Drug Prevention website.

Funding

ATOD is funded by the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP).
